The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is expected to release ISO 14001:2026 in April 2026, replacing the existing ISO 14001:2015 standard. This revision focuses on improving clarity, strengthening environmental considerations, and aligning with the ISO Harmonized Structure (Annex SL).

The drafting process began in late 2023 and has now reached the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) stage. The FDIS was released on 5 January 2026 for an 8-week review and voting period.
